Hi Guys , I often read books and journals on efficiency and productivity. These are the two measurable that can be compared but measuring same is a challenge as the person measuring same needs to be well versed also. People try to follow path of multitasking to have more efficiency and productivity. I also earlier find this is the right approach till I read some Harvard articles and attended some session where It came to my understanding that normal human brain is not wired for multitasking and what we often considered multitasking is in fact a term known as switch tasking and same I will explain with few examples.

When we are driving our vehicles we change songs and do some prohibited tasks like talking on phone whether thru hand set or thru blue-tooth. Talking on mobile while driving a vehicle is punishable offence as per motor vehicle acts as talking on mobile phone while driving a vehicle leads to attention deficit and can cause accident as whatever expertise we are having in driving but shifting of attention from driving to answering call or listening music can divert out attention from driving to answering call which can leads to accidents.

What we are doing in pretext of multitasking is switch tasking as we are shifting our focus from driving talking than driving etc.
We are talking on phone in our office replying mail on laptop while attending a meeting in our office. It has been experimentally proved that doing all three activity together always takes more time than doing all activities in series and completing one task after another normally take less time. It is another aspect that while computer is booting we can switch task to next one.

Hence lets learn that human brain is not capable of doing multitasking and what we consider multitasking is actually a switch tasking which is to be done very carefully.
