Hi Guys, in the continuity of our previous article it’s not my job. We have seen some examples of instances which show how its not my job philosophy and practices are impregnated in our day to day culture from our home to private, public, and government workplace. We have seen that this attitude is not only prevalent in India but across the globe with varied intensity depending upon home or organization culture. There may be various approaches to tackle the issue from home to public places and even in various walks of life in the industry.
I remember that in present lockdown period it has been reported from India and abroad that Gurudwaras are arranging lungers a type of community meal like breakfast, lunch, and dinner to needy people and all religious places of Sikhs known as Gurudwaras have been serving meals to all visitors coming to visit and pray without any differentiation of religion, caste, creed, Nationality, unlike any other religions places I come across or known to me. Why it is so…. The reason being the Sikh religion teachings which become culture or sanskar in inheritance started by the first Sikh Guru Sh. Nanak Dev Ji which is followed.
This can either change by change in the culture of home, office, or outside. Now who is responsible for making culture the top rung or bottom rung, the younger or the older once, we always hope that some else will initiate as we are not aware of the benefits of initiator because we have not been taught. It is very clear from our organization structure of every organization that the person having more responsibilities normally leads the higher roles. Higher roles are normally assigned to guys who are habitual and capable of taking higher responsibilities irrespective of their current role in the organization. But we are not able to understand the age-old theory that first deserve than desire. In normal working, everyone desires to attain responsibilities after getting the position. Now comes what is the benefit of taking extra responsibilities even if it is not mandatory. I guess the following are the key benefits of taking extra responsibilities.
The self-satisfaction of an individual which makes him confident that I can do this also boosts the morale of an individual.
The person who has done something for others are always remembered for their selfless acts.
Leaders set the path and direction for others to follow by doing the walk the talk.
Effort always pays to performers sooner and later.
Truth prevails at last. Nobody can take the credit of work done by any other individual. The same is very clearly mentioned in the Gita, the holy book of India.
Opportunities for more to perform the next higher role whether home, office, job, business, politics, or any ventures
I believe that understanding a bigger picture of life and benefits of doing extra needs to be conveyed by the leader, not the talk but by walking the talk. As it is a very proven fact of child psychology is that children don’t do what you say or preach but they follow what they observe from parents and analogy is applicable in an organization or in public life by leaders.
